FOREVER THANK YOU

There are so many wonderful people
who work tirelessly each day
to safeguard everyone’s children.

Brave, courageous, dedicated people,
who go above and beyond ‘as a rule’.

Fighting a worldwide war
against a very common enemy.

Hailed and unsung heroes
from every walk of life
from every faith and profession.

It will always be impossible
to count all those
they have helped to save.

Less than they would like, I’m sure,
but more than they will ever know.

Most will never meet those
they work so hard to protect.

Fewer still, will ever get to hear
the heartfelt thanks and gratitude
felt for all that they do.

For the long hours, the sleepless nights
and the haunted memories.

For the tears you cried
and for every time you tried
to overcome your fears.

For the meals you missed
and all the times you kissed
your sleeping child goodnight.

Thank you hardly seems enough
for a second chance at life.

To all those child protectors
your sacrifice was not in vain
it didn’t go unnoticed
when rescue finally came.

Our thanks will never be enough
but we’ll give it every day.
Less we forget - beyond our pain
the price we know you paid.
